Character humps

LOL knew this would get some attention lol, seriously what type of character humps have you found difficult to get over.

Personally i found creating an angle and sticking to it so long that there was a difficulty to improve upon it and move on when it was driven into the ground.

Another hump i ran into was the writing hump. I wanted to bust through my own glass ceiling and had a hard time doing that until i could figure out where i was having writing issues in developing a new style for myself.

Last but not least trying to chase the guys who were leagues better than i was. Learning to be my own self and not trying to push over to something bigger without working for it in my own way.

The recreating of my character at times, progressing with age and experiences, Each time i work on this i try not to lose what he is or has gone through makes it difficult for me to mesh it together without it being to overwhelming.

Getting over my own self-doubt long enough to not bail on a character. Quinlan is really the only character I have used for any length of time consecutively at just 8 months now.

That said, I have run in to problems with Q that I have not experienced before, what with the giving up and all. Trying to go the long haul, I started with a long arc, to which I haven't yet reached the rise. I have been struggling to find the appropriate moment to have the key events take place, and I apologize to Jow (and anyone else) who have read the pieces that I knew were just postponing the interesting.

Secondly, I have modelled him more as an extention of myself, and my flaws shine thru. I suck at conversations. I use little dialogue in my writing. I am pretty solitary these days. I have used very few side characters in my writing.

Third, and I think might be the most common to writers not in league with the top of their feds: stable feuding partners. Eight months, four vanishing acts. Really is a punch in the nuts to have a story set and see it amount to nothing. Has made me want to no sell feuds completely, being a rp competition alone. Thankfully I have installed and colaborated on (what I consider to be) a good one with Johnny C. Next step is to show the ambition to impliment my sweeping storying idea. Big step.

I should probably start actually planning stuff. I've never physically written anything down by way of an actual "plan" as to what's gonna happen with my character. I knew that, for GTT, I wanted to break Draeden's journey down into two separate paths but had no idea how. I initially started writing where Draeden opened his eyes in the middle of one of his uncle's fields in China. There was no real scenery as such, just endless fields and the whole thing was meant to be very psychological, focusing on his thoughts and feelings more than on the world around him; his reasoning for why he was there and speculation on where he was. Then I thought that was shite and decided to wash him up on a beach somewhere instead and discarded a couple thousand words worth.

I think one of my major problems is that I'm never actually satisfied with anything I write. Often a few hours before deadline I'm like "I'll just have to post this shit then, since I've got no time to write anything else." But I don't really know what to do about that. Think positive? No thanks, not with my life. I'll save deluding myself for when I'm senile. I've got this lovely retirement plan where, when I get old with no money and no friends, I'll probably burn my own house down while trying to defend it from a clan of ravenous wolf-men that emerge from my elderly imagination and attempt to steal my curtains, so I say "no, fuck you wolf-men" and burn the bastards to the ground killing everyone inside. Spent two weeks' pension on those fuckin curtains. In terms of my chronic self-dissatisfaction, the story I wrote yesterday (Creative Writing forum - go go Gadget feedback) I just wrote and posted because it wasn't written to "win" anything, or as a "competition" piece, just something stupid I did while I sat on my arse doing sweet fuck-all at work because if I don't find something to do I'm going to fucking explode.

I think focus too. I lose focus a lot. On days like this I tend to find it hard to concentrate. My mind is racing. I need to write something but I'm at work and need to speak to people but just can't be fucking bothered. I need something to do.

No seriously, my main problem is that most of the characters I try out I don't find a voice for them. They're usually gimmicky characters that I run out of gas on 4 matches into their career.
